Visit our online Hub store for exclusive printed materials that support learning and operating your Hub, such as our training Manual, pads of the Hub form, and laminated educational posters. Scroll below on this page for links to other items on Amazon that we don't produce ourselves.
There are various ways a local Hub can access supplies. One option is a "Hub-in-a-Bag". It includes the most critical items for quickly getting a basic Hub up and running. It can easily fit in a car trunk or closet. If your Hub chooses this option, it's important that three or more volunteers have Bags and plan to bring them to the Hub location. Some volunteers will probably be unavailable for one reason or another when a disaster strikes, so you need to build in some redundancy.
The Hub's own systems can be used to mobilize additional items from the surrounding community such as canopies and folding tables if they are needed during a long event.
To create your Hub-in-a-Bag:
Order our specialized Basic Hub Kit (8 items bundled at a discount) or individual items on the A La Carte page of our our online store, and
Use the links below to purchase additional items from Amazon that we have tested and recommend. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
When you combine our Basic Hub Kit with the Amazon items, you'll have a Hub-in-a-Bag!
Regleto 24 Pocket Storage Chart
known in Hub lingo as the "Hanging Organizer" -- Order THREE for each Hub-in-a-Bag
The hanging organizers are perhaps the most important tool in the system -- except for the Volunteers who bring it all to life. The Posting Forms are tracked on these orgnizers as explained in the Village Hub Manual, and in this video. The Classic Hub Set-Up uses three organizers. So click through to Amazon and order THREE of them in order to assemble ONE Hub-in-a-Bag. It could be nice to have an extra if working with large numbers of people as you could move, for example, all the messages for friends and family to their own organizer off to one side if there were large numbers of messages being posted. In the photo below, the organizer labeled "Volunteers" is holding the posting forms during a disaster practice event in San Jose, California, 2025.
Vertical Oversized 4"X6" Vinyl ID Badge Holder
These are for the Role Name Tags available in the Hub Store above. Insert the Hub Role Name Tags from our store into these clear Badge Holders. (Lanyards are separate item, scroll below.)
For inserting an individual's name onto the Role Name Tag, fits in the space provided and slides into the Badge Holder.
These come as a pack of ten and are the most affordable option we could find. Note however that they are "one size fits all" and larger folks find that they don't close in front with the velcro. Might be nice to get some larger vests if your budget allows.
Small White Board (20" X 14")
Fits in the Hub-in-a-Bag carry bag (link below). You are going to want larger white boards, but this will get you started. A somewhat larger board could still fit in the trunk of a car but would not fit in the carry bag as this one does. Remember, you can also use the Hub systems to requesition from the community the additional gear you need, like larger boards.
Tarp Shelter (10' X 16.4') with cord
In the absence of a full-framed canopy, this excellent tarp packs small and fits in the "Hub-in-a-Bag". Comes with all the needed mounting cords and its own stuff sack.
The classic "fixes anything" tape is always helpful to have on hand. White color also allows it to be used for labelling in a pinch.
Mini Carabiners for mounting hanging organizers and other equipment
These not-for-climbing carabiners are a great help as you set up your Hub, especially for mounting the hanging organizers.
Utility cord is useful to have at the Hub to help with miscellaneous mounting, set-up, and shelter issues. 100 ft.
We recommend using these as an easy way to hang the Hub education posters and other items. And like duct tape, cable ties have endless uses in a situation where improvisation is required. Note that these are REUSABLE -- press the small tab to release and remove.
Useful for crowd control and directing people where to first enter the Hub, and of course for marking off hazardous areas.
Low-profile clipboards, set of 4.
Since the simple "Hub-in-a-Bag" does not include folding tables, having clipboards to write on as you get started is key. (Remember, you can use the Hub system itself to request items like folding tables from the community, but as you get started clipboards may be all you have.)
The flat clip on these makes them stow easily in the bag with all your other gear.
For clipping forms together when matches are made, and the entire "conversation" of messages that individuals are exchanging.
We prefer these silicone bags over ziplock bags for keeping stowing and keeping organized the smaller items in your bag. (The pens and clips in the bottom of the hanging organizers, the role name tags when stowing, and the duct tape, caution tape, paracord, and zip ties.)
Carry Bag - holds all items in the above sections
Easy to carry and not too big, amazingly this bag holds all this above items (Hub Basic Kit items + Amazon items) to create you "Hub-in-a-Bag". Note, we are recommending the MEDIUM size (22.8" X 15" X 8.7").
This is the canopy we have been using at our Practice Events in San Jose. Easy up, easy down. Wheeled storage bag is easy to haul around (once you learn the trick about which way it goes in the bag so the pegs secure the canopy in place). Good quality.
This table has served us well at our Practice Events in San Jose and garnered many positive comments. Rather than sitting passively at conventional tables, these work well when volunteers are standing and talking with folks from the community who have stopped by the Hub. Provides a hard surface to fill out the Hub form.
Plus, these are also great for parties and fundraisers!
