Hub Courses and Events
A Village Hub is a gathering place in your neighborhood where trained volunteers coordinate support in the event resources are disrupted. Hubs make a huge difference when phones and other systems are not working (More about Hubs here).
See a Hub in action: Stop by our next Practice Event to watch. You'll have the option to role play a situation in a mock disaster that will help the Volunteers get practice.

Stop by for as little as 15 minutes
anytime between 10:45 - 11:45 AM
Ladera Recreation District in Portola Valley.
No sign-ups, just stop by!
Become a Hub Volunteer. It's fun, and a great way to serve your community. There are just two steps to learn the basics: Attend an online Orientation (Part A) and then an in-real-life Practice Event (Part B).

Our most exciting and ambitious offering to date. This five-week course is for the leaders who may not think of themselves as leaders, the people who care about others and want to make a quiet but powerful difference in their neighborhood. You’ll enjoy the camaraderie of peers and get support as you develop your Village Hub. You’ll gain the confidence to talk with neighbors about local resilience,a deeper understanding of Hub operations. You'll gain the skills to create a Core Group that create new Hubs.
We will apply principles of emergent networks that will demystify the development of an effective volunteer-run organization to care for your Hub. You’ll also learn a dozen simple concrete practices so that your group:
runs good meetings that end on time and get stuff done,
welcomes people into the culture and provides clarity about roles so that new folks can thrive as they learn,
establishes a framework for shared and rotating leadership so one or two of you aren’t stuck doing everything (or possibly worse, one unaccountable person completely takes over the project).
Finally, your course registration will help Certain Together to become financially sustainable. I will continue to offer the entry-level courses for free as I begin charging tuition for more advanced offerings. If finances are a barrier, contact me to work out a sliding scale. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Dates: The Resilient Core course will meet on five Tuesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 PM on Zoom: 8/19, 8/26, 9/2, 9/9, and 9/16. It is a project-based experience — you will get more from it if you are able to dedicate 1 or 2 hours per week creating neighborhood resilience so you can share victories, setbacks, questions, get the group’s counsel, and connect the class material to your neighborhood.
